Australians Search Mobile with Yellow™

Australia’s Sensis Signs mobilePeople Solution

Copenhagen, London 15 May 2007 – Sensis, a leading Australian media, advertising and directories business, today announced the launch of enhancements to its mobile directory service YellowTM Mobile. Australian mobile search using Yellow™ will take on a new look and feel through the new client-based user interface which features intuitive, helpful and cross-platform functionality, making the mobile search experience simple, highly relevant and ultimately more useful. Yellow™ Mobile is powered by mobilePeople’s liquid™ downloadable mobile search solution and offers immediate access to the well-respected content of the Australian Yellow™ directory.

Customers of Australia’s leading mobile network, Telstra, will also benefit from auto-locate technologies made available through the Telstra network. This means when subscribers search for products or services using Yellow™ Mobile, the product will automatically recognise their location and search within the current vicinity.

Sebastian Baldwin, Group Manager Sensis Wireless and Location commented on the launch: “We’re confident that Yellow™ Mobile will take mobile search into the mainstream in Australia. We are focusing hard on the end-user experience so that whether a mobile user is out in the bush, working in the city or relaxing on the beach, they will now be able to quickly and easily find what they’re looking for. More importantly, this is direct to people’s mobile phones and only takes a couple of clicks. The advance of mobile technologies, particularly mobile internet, means that customers are expecting the same level of service via the mobile channel as on the internet.”

Jens Andersen, CEO and co-founder of mobilePeople said: “Mobile search continues to grow in momentum as consumers embrace the concept of using the mobile phone as portable search tools. Companies that adopt mobile search are able to better satisfy the demands of their consumers by providing what they want, where and when they want it. Ultimately we’re becoming the ‘I want it now’ generation.”

The Australian mobile communications market is fast-paced and growing with gusto. Analyst house Gartner predicts that 6.8 million mobile devices will be sold in the country during 2007 and that 21 percent of these will be internet-enabled smart-phones. The Australian Sunday Herald newspaper recently reported that the country’s adoption of wireless technologies is growing four-fold year on year.

About Sensis’ Yellow Mobile

Sensis’ YellowTM Mobile is accessible via a wide portfolio of mobile devices, currently in excess of 100 Australian handsets including devices from all of the leading manufacturers that supply the Australian mobile market: Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Telstra, LG and Motorola. This means Yellow will be easily available to the 20 million residents that form the Australian population.

The client application is based on mobilePeople’s liquid™ mobile search solution which, due to its leanness (approx. 185kb), covers mass-market as well as high-end handsets and can be seamlessly updated over the air.

The search entry field provides predictive text functionality and users will be able to see results plotted onto a map, with textual directions and a highlighted route. There is also the option to automatically save the details into a user’s contact list. Search results will have a ‘click to call’ mechanic via a telephony-enabled link displayed within each result – enabling calls to be made directly from within the search browser. The interface also includes a ‘send-to-a-friend’ mechanic, which will further drive the naturally viral nature of mobile marketing.

Advertisers have the option of directory, priority or platinum listings – which will be indicated as such. Platinum advertisements will have an enhanced look and feel, showing up at the top of the search results – but limited to a maximum of three per set of results. These will be followed by a small number of priority listings and then the directory’s organic results.
