MEF Mobile Search & Discovery Initiative
In December 2006, MEF launched an exciting new initiative called the Mobile Search & Discovery initiative. This initiative seeks to create a premier mobile search and discovery experience that will drive mobile entertainment uptake and therefore revenues.
The Initiative was proposed by mobilePeople and supported by FAST (Fast Search & Transfer) and Qpass – Amdocs Digital Commerce Division. Ovum is the the external research partner for this MEF initiative.
This initiative is not about technology but about the commercial aspects of the emerging mobile search market.
The objectives main objectives are:
1. To educate the mobile entertainment industry
2. To build and promote this high potential market for the mobile industry
3. To promote best practices by publishing an authoritative best practice guide on usability guidelines for search results of mobile entertainment content on a small screen.
As a first step, we will be undertaking a consultation with MEF members to see how MEF members view the importance of mobile search and what they might wish to get out of it.
The results of the consultation will be made public at 3GSM.
